After hearing and seeing some rather good things about the series hack//SIGN, I made it a point to enjoy this new anime for myself... A fansub was all I needed to fall in love with another series. ^^ Now, I can't say too much about it without spoiling some things, but it's a great combination of technology, fantasy, and reality. Subaru is a sort of 'mother' character in the fantasy realm, and occupies a sort of administrator position. She's quiet and responsible, and her desire to protect and moderate others comes from a hidden fear of her own weakness. Quite interesting, and quite beautiful!

I used a very pretty polyester crepe for the main parts of the dress, and a cotton broadcloth for the apron and other parts. I drafted most of the patterns myself, except for the bodice top and the shoulder sleeves (which I got from a Wizard of Oz Dorothy pattern. ^^). I was very specific with some of my design, including a tulle 'petticoat' for under the skirts, and tulle inserts to keep the sleeves puffy. Interfacing was heavily used in the apron and collar. The design on the apron was drawn out first on tracing paper, then cut out and the tracing paper used as a template to transfer the design, which was then filled in with fabric marker.

The wings were made from a felt and wire base, sewing most of the feathers on, and using glue for the smaller ones. When wearing, the wings were attached to the back of the collar, and secured to my back with a little spirit gum. The boots were an extremely lucky find at Walmart, a pair of very light tan suede boots that I dyed blue with Rit dye. The wig was purchased online, a "Dulce" style.

Subaru made her debut at NDK 2003, and I had a WONDERFUL time. This was definitely one my favorite costumes, and represents nearly seven years of cosplay and costume experience and education.
