The Moon Princess Serenity has been and remains as one of my favorite characters of all times. I'm all about the silver hair, of course... I love the Serenity dress, and I love the Serenity character. I find it incredibly awesome that in the Sailormoon anime and manga that her Princess form is always her strongest. To be so delicate and so powerful in the same form.. Really stunning concept. And what little girl (or the little girl within the woman) doesn't want to be a Princess once in a while?

The dress shell is made of a stretch lycra swimsuit lining. I chose the lycra specifically because it mimicked the drape of the Serenity gown in the illustrations. By using a technique on the hem called a lettuce-edge, I really caught a lot of the 'flutter' of the gown's fabric. The bodice is covered with lots and lots of hand sewn trim and beading, as the manga portraits all show! Because I'm nervous ^.~ there are straps on the bodice, just a bit of sheer silver ribbon. The flower-sleeves are just that... flowers!

The wig was one of my greatest challenges. I had never in my life styled such a detailed wig, and I was really nearly stumped. I still don't care much for the original, and I hope to have a new one created someday. I ended up covering over a lot of my 'messes' with silk flowers. ^^ So it all worked itself out.

This costume is one of my most prized and cherished pieces, not only for the costume itself and the character it represents, but for the memories it carries in its very stitches.

I was honored with the January-February 2004 Cosplay Lab Lookalike Contest in 1st Place.
